Looks from Paris Fall 2011 RTW
1. Travels to Africa and the Orient Express were referenced at Christian Lemaire’s first collection for Hermès. Lemaire looked to the 1920’s for inspiration and chose a sporting reference of falconry, the past sport of Kings, instead of traditional equine pursuits. Desert opulence was the theme du jour with capes, caftans and leather jockey hats in luxurious leathers and soft wools.
2. Phoebe Philo’s inspiration at Celine was “the power and essential-ness of a beautifully made car” and produced another collection of sleek and classic designs for the modern woman.
3. Despite the scandal surrounding John Galliano’s departure from Christian Dior, the 20-piece collection was presented by Dior CEO Sidney Toledano. Dior’s brilliance at referencing 1930’s glamour and opulence was once again evident. Despite Galliano’s absence, his collection is apparently ready for purchase and the sales room open for appointments.
4. Jewel colours in silk and satin was the look du jour for Haider Ackermann, Karl Lagerfeld’s choice for his successor at Chanel. Ackermann’s collection was "reserved and more masculine" and delivered a restrained yet inspired collection.
5. Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz’s inspiration for his Fall collection was trees. "Everyone needs a tree. "Branches, roots. We're getting right back to the roots of tradition”. The collection was largely made up of subdued tones of black and midnight but with pops of blush, tangerine and pink at the finale.
